The title of operation is Hellenic Humanitarian and Development
Network (H.H.D.N.) in Serbia. The operation is located in 11
regions (50 municipalities) of Central and Southern Serbia. The
objective for the development of the H.H.D.N. in Serbia is the
strenghtening and enhancement of the relations, the cooperation
links and the understanding between the Greek and the Serbian
people as well as the relief of the less privileged and the
sustainable development in Serbia. H.H.D.N. consists of 54
humanitarian societies which take care of registered less
privileged people such as the blind, deaf, paraplegic, etc. and 10
development partners which are to be identified till the end of
October. The project will be carried out through distribution of
food aid parcels (flour, rice, powder milk, pasta, beans, jam and
conserved meat). Two distributions are planned for the period of
six months for the same beneficiary families. Cooperation with
seven Red Cross societies will help the School Kitchen Programmes
In the first half of September meetings were held with all the
partners and Red Crosses in all towns concerned except for two,
which are planned for the next month. The societies were informed
of our work and we gathered the necessary information on our
project's beneficiaries. The first deliveries and distributions of
food aid parcels took place in Kragujevac on 21 September. Further
distribution is planned for October.
Most of our partner societies have been active in organising all
sorts of gatherings for their members throughout September. This
includes their regular assembleys, celebration of their society's
day (the Day of the Deaf - 29/09), picnic trips or even summer
camps. Silver Lake camp (7/09-14/09) was especially interesting
for its creative workshops. As regards sports activities, we
congratulate the Paraplegic society from Kragujevac on winning the
Serbian Championship in archery, darts and athletics and the Blind
society from Po`arevac on winning two first places in bowling. Not
all of these societies have received aid so far so we look forward
to spreading the humanitarian network.
