The project of the UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT «Community revitalization through democratic action» is currently being realised in Smederevska Palanka and implemented in the territory of Central Serbia in 12 municipalities by the NGO ACDI-VOCA. The project is implemented in the following municipalities: Arandjelovac, Cacak, Cuprija, Gornji Milanovac, Jagodina, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Pozarevac, Smederevska Palanka, Smederevo, Topola, and Vrnjacka Banja. 40 million US dollars will be invested in the first year of the project's implementation for the 12 stated municipalities.                 After nine weeks of talking to the principal European leaders, a thousand of young Europeans stayed in Denmark for two weeks in the youth summer camp titled YOUTH 2002. The camp was held in 13 Danish folk high schools with a view to developing the European constitution proposal within the initiative Let's bridge Europe of the World Economic Forum and the magazine Monday Morning. Representatives from Central Serbia were Katarina Vujcin and Milos Kostadinovic, members of the European Movement in Smederevska Palanka. Their stay there was made possible with the help of the transport company LASTA, PALANACKI KISELjAK, GOSA HOLDING CORPORATION, GOSA FOM, FIMAKS, DIZNILEND ANICA and FOTO BULE. Katarina Vujcin attended the reception of the Chairman of the European Union as well as the introductory press conference.

                The construction of a day-care centre for mentally underdeveloped and autistic persons in Smederevska Palanka has started. This project's realisation falls within  «Community revitalization through democratic action» (CRDA),  financially supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and implemented in the territory of Central Serbia by the American non-governmental organisation ACDI-VOCA. USAID allotted 4648482.50 dinars  for the execution of works stipulated within the CRDA programme whereas the community contribution equals 500000 dinars.                 NGO WOMEN IN ACTION FROM VELIKA PLANA IS IMPLEMENTING A TEN-MONTH EDUCATIONAL PROJECT for the women working at the Social Welfare Centre, Municipal Court, Health Clinic, Municipal Assembly, primary and secondary schools and other public institutions and enterprises.

On 18 May 2002 THERE WAS A LECTURE «SPORT, HEALTH AND SMOKING» WITHIN THE PROJECT «Through sport to health» of the Roma Culture Club from Smederevska Palanka. The aim of the project is to develop awareness of sports activities importance as a prerequisite for preserving one's health, among Roma and other children in Smederevska Palanka, Mladenovac and Belgrade, of the ages between 12 and 15.                 On 22 May 2002 CENTRE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NON-PROFIT SECTOR IN NORTH-EAST SERBIA held a meeting with the representatives of Smederevo non-governmental organisations. The programme of the Regional Centre for the Development of Non-Profit Sector in North-East Serbia is being realised by the European Movement in Smederevska Palanka. The programme of activities of the Centre for the Development of Non-Profit Sector from Belgrade was presented at the meeting, within the project "Strengthening civil society institutions – non-governmental organisations capacity building and regional network development in Serbia  (2002-2004)" supported by European Commission.                 On 5 June 2002 WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION "RUZA" OFFICIALLY MARKED THE BEGINNING OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT "Creative sewing workshop" in provisional work premises in Smederevska Palanka, supported by the Danish Refugee Council. This one-year project will gather 20 women from Kosovo and Metohia that have found their refuge in Smederevska Palanka. The products of their work will be bed linen and tablecloths with additional items that are to be donated to the hospital "Stefan Visoki" in Smederevska Palanka. A similar project is being realised by women’s associations “Prolece” (Spring) and “Biseri” (Pearls) from Smederevska Palanka.

                On 5 June 2002 a creative workshop was held WITHIN THE PROJECT "MOVE AND GO" realised in SMEDEREVSKA PALANKA by the NGO "LOGOS – Creative Centre" from Smederevska Palanka. Within this project that is to last for a few months, creative workshops are organised each Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the premises of the NGO "LOGOS-Creative Centre", 6 Prvomajska St., Smederevska Palanka. Apart from Smederevska Palanka, the project is also being realised in Uzice, Backa Palanka and Subotica. The programme is primarily intended for secondary school children and their needs for better life, but it also involves their parents, teachers and other relevant local community groups that can contribute to a productive dialogue on grasping ideas of general good, common interest and responsible citizens in the four communities in Serbia. All project activities will be implemented in four phases: BE INFORMED, PARTICIPATE, YOU ARE RIGHT and WE ARE IN ACTION.                 IN THE PERIOD FROM 7 TO 9 JUNE 2002 THE YOUTH CLUB OF EUROPEAN MOVEMENT IN SMEDEREVSKA PALANKA stayed in Timisoara  within the project “Communication and Civic Involvement in South-Eastern Europe (COM-PAR)” with the project holder GLAS Association (The Group for Free Social Assertion) from Timisoara. The participants had the opportunity to make friends with Romanian children of the same age and visit Telecentrul  Comlosul  Mare together. Within these social events there was a workshop concerning the issues of discrimination and integration of the Roma into local community. The project was supported by EUROREGIONAL CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY from Timisoara and OPEN SOCIETY INSTITUTE from New York.
