The
Second Balkan Forum of Non-Governmental Organisations:
In
Soko Banja, from 29 to 30 August 2002, there was the Second Forum
of Non-Governmental Organisations from the Balkans, and a lot of
non-governmental organisations, both from our and the neighbouring
countries, were interested in it: from Bulgaria, Romania,
Macedonia, etc. Apart from NGO representatives, the Forum was also
attended by representatives of local, regional, province and
federal governments, which is a sign that in the future there will
be better cooperation between the government and non-governmental
organisations, whereas the presence of donors is a good sign they
will continue to support cross-border cooperation.
The
non-governmental sector played an important role in the
democratization process in the Balkans so far and it should
continue with setting a good example to other sectors on how to
develop cross-border cooperation and build partnerships. NGOs
should additionally stress this issue again as one of the key
factors of this process. It is especially important to establish
better cooperation between the government, business and
non-governmental organisations. It is quite clear that it is the
non-governmental organisations that have the key role in
strengthening cooperation among all three sectors. These are the
conclusions from the panel session
»Development of democratic society in the Balkans«,
opened by Miljenko Dereta – Civic Initiatives - Belgrade, Todor
Tsekov - IBCRD – Belogradchik and Sasa Djordjevic, Mayor of
Zajecar Region.
The
panel sesion titled »Resource centres of Balkan NGOs« was opened
by Zivka Vasilevska from the Centre for the Development of
Non-Profit Sector from Belgrade and Illona Mihaies – CED -
Timisoara and the conclusions are that resource centres should
play a key role in better mutual connecting and intensifying of
cooperation among Balkan NGOs. Exchange of information on the
existing legislations and their, as urgent as possible, compliance
with European standards also represents an ample field of work for
resource centres.
Another
panel session was of great interest to the participants »Balkan
integration into European institutions«, opened by Dusko
Radosavljevic – Executive Council of Vojvodina from Novi Sad,
Natasa Koturovic from Stability Pact – Belgrade and Vladimir
Pandurov - East West Institute from Nis, and the conclusions are
that non-governmental organisations should seek their place and
role in local and integrating processes, such as Euroregion. BTCF
is expected to propose a strategy for the strengthening of the NGO
role in the process of the Balkan integration into European
institutions.
A
lot of representatives from the media covered the Forum, which is
estimated as a good sign of further and better cooperation between
the non-governmental sector and the media.
The
best volunteer of Timok Region has been chosen. Within the the
project "Support to volunteers of Timok Region",
supported by Freedom House, apart from NGO training, local
institutions and volunteers themselves, there was an open
competition for the best volunteer of Timok Region. The awards for
the chosen best
volunteers at the competition were provided by the local
donors: Azzaro, Moltobene, Dolce Vita, Isakov and Babin zub.
The
announcement of the best volunteer was made in Sokobanja during
the Second Balkan Forum and the best volunteer, according to the
votes of regional NGOs, was Stanisa Kostadinovic from the Timok
Club. Yesterday, Stanisa Kostadinovic got a job at the private
enterprise “Isakov”, one of the local donors at the
competition.
