Civil organizations and process of euro integration

MACEDONIA HAS LOW ACESS TO EU FUNDS

In the period of 2002-2004 in the frame of CARDS program on national level for the countries of so called West Balkan funds for civil society there was 4,5 million euros. For Macedonia those allocations in the period between 2002-2004 were 3 millions euros and budget frames in 2005-2006 are approximately 1,5 million euros.

“Because Macedonia has become an aspirant for EU membership, our access to EU funds has declined, which on the practical level means that it is connected with euro integrative processes” – it was said on yesterday meeting on civil organizations and process of euro integration – access to EU funds.

Ms. Tanja Hafner Ademi from Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIS) said that in the period 2002-2004, EU funds for civil organzations directed on regional level for Western Balkans were 4,5 millions euros.

For Macedonia, those allocations for the period 2002-2004 were around 3 millions euros and budget frames for 2005-2006 are approximately 1,5 millions euros. The European Union now negotiates for the new budget frame and from 2007 Macedonia will be included in new instrument called IPA.

In order to apply for EU funds, Macedonian organizations fist must know where to find the sources, then they should spend time in order to change experiences, because the procedures and guidelines of the EU are too complicated in order to be completed as one application.

“Civil organizations in Macedonia made their first step, in this Euro integration processes” - said Ms. Hafner-Ademi

This project that have been realized in the frame of CARDS program of EU and it has the goal to increase capacity of civil society formal and informal networks, active in the region towards better and more effective cooperation.
