EU FUNDS IN MACEDONIA

Money is here but none to apply for it

“EU funds directed to the civil sector in Macedonia have not been used enough” – said the representatives of yesterday tribune “Civil organizations and process of euro integration – access to EU funds”

“In Macedonia, it is not so easy to find the proper information and this is the reason why many assets for civil sector have been unused” – said the representatives of NGO sector at this meeting.

According to the everyday experience, civil organizations have access to the m EU funds only through EU NGO partner who can easily make access to these funds.

European Commission every year manages and coordinates almost 12 billions euros for civil society. During the last 5 years, from 2001 till 2006 European union donated 10 millions euro for the countries of ex Yugoslavia and Albania, mostly in the frame of CARDS program.

Macedonia received around 606 millions euro from the European Union in the period of 1992-2003. From all the countries from its region, Macedonia has smallest number of civil society organizations as members of EU networks.

CARDS and EIDHR are the most important programs for supporting of civil society associations in the region as well in Macedonia. Through CARDS program in the period 2002-2004, 3 billions euro were distributed in Macedonia and in the ongoing 2005-2006 period, the total amount of 3 millions euro is planned to be allocated mostly for development of democratization rule of law, good governance, improvement of interethnic relations, etc.
